Organizing for Effective Literacies Instruction

Many commercial reading programs available by purchase or online subscription are explicitly scripted, but are not effective for all students. Scaffolding and feedback by highly trained literacies experts have shown effectiveness toward improving difficulties in learning to read and write in both research and practice. However, an underlying challenge to providing high quality reading instruction is developing and organizing a comprehensive literacy framework and progress monitoring system that would merge cultural, linguistic, economic, racial, political, and dis/ableist views of literacies with cognitive and metacognitive processes of reading proficiency, fluency, and comprehension and writing effectiveness. Restorative literacies can support developing intentional and deliberate organizational systems to assure growth.
