Literacies in the Community

Fostering ably, racially, culturally, linguistically, economically, and politically responsive, authentic, and engaging dialogue about multiple forms of literacies can bring out the best of a pluralistic society. Organizations who recognize and disrupt ethnocentrism, color and other identity blindness, meritocracy, deficit mindsets, ableism, and multiculturalism are successful in promoting justice and humanity. Restorative literacies can support organizations toward integrating the medium of literacies in their larger mission, such as urban mural arts programs, software engineering courses for marginalized individuals, or athletic mentorship initiatives.
